One Harvest Program
Coffees that are part of The One Harvest Program are of exceptional quality, produced by families with amazing stories of success and overcoming hardships. The goal of this program is to improve the lives of these farmers and their families.
One Harvest Coffee strives to create a maintainable coffee supply that will remain consistent throughout the years as specialty coffee becomes more difficult to source. By creating this plentiful supply chain, we are helping to provide these estates and their workers with the necessities they need to maintain this coffee supply. As the market changes and the price of coffee rises, the farmers that we have developed relationships with have incentive to sell us their coffee. By having a relationship with the growers, we can look at their cost
of living and cost to produce coffee to ensure they are being paid enough to cover their living and production expenses.
On a humanitarian level, many of today's growers are growing coffee in third world countries; most of these growers have no access to phones or Internet. Without that ability to communicate, these growers don't know if they are getting paid a fair market value for their coffee. By partnering with these growers, we can make sure they are being paid fair market value. Our partnership with the Rio Azul Co-Operative helps pay for the medical and dental costs for all of the men, women and children of Rio Azul.
Consumer level- By cultivating a relationship with coffee growers, It's A Grind is able to provide the consumer with information that other roasters and cafes simply can not provide - that is, who produces and where the coffee is coming from. The value of the coffee is increased because the consumer knows where the product originates and they know there are real people behind the wonderful coffees they are enjoying. Our roaster visits these growers and gets to know them, learning more about coffee cultivation and a different way of life. The growers communicate these first-hand experiences to us, and then we relay the stories about the coffee that are of interest to our customers. In addition to being paid a fair price for their coffee, growers benefit in other ways; such as medical grants and loans to plant more crops. The consumer makes a direct impact, as money from every bag of whole bean coffee sold is helping to support these farmers and their families.
The One Harvest Program Commitment:
We have made a commitment to this program and the estates producing these coffees. The cost of these three coffees in The One Harvest Program is higher because the coffee is processed and roasted in small batches and it is of high quality. Money from every bag of coffee sold will go back to the farmers at the estates we work with. Through programs like ours, we are helping to contribute to the well being of these estate workers and their families in third-world countries. It is important to educate your employees and your customers about The One Harvest Program and the coffees associated with it.
